Vintage Women's Sweaters & Cardigans

Vintage women's sweaters are second-hand sweaters (usually 20+ years old) that were made at a time when materials and craftsmanship were often more durable than they are today.

Think of:

• thicker wool qualities (such as lambswool or mohair).
• sturdily knitted structures that retain their shape.
• unique colors and patterns that are rarely seen nowadays.

The difference, therefore, is not just in age, but in character.

Onze selectie is klein maar bewust. Je vindt hier alleen truien en vesten die iets toevoegen aan je outfit:

• Jaren 70 truien: vaak van wol of wolmi, in warme tinten (bruin, roest, mosterd) en met subtiele patronen of ribstructuren.
• Jaren 80 truien: denk aan oversized fits, grafische prints en kleurcontrasten en statement pieces die je outfit dragen.
• Wollen vintage truien: gemaakt van scheerwol, mohair of alpaca, houden warmte vast zonder synthetisch gevoel.
• Oversized vintage truien: deze vallen losser dan moderne maten en zijn ideaal om te combineren met een blouse eronder.
• Kleurrijke vintage truien met bijzondere prints en kleuren die je niet snel in fast-fashion ziet. Ze maken een simpele outfit meteen interessanter.

Omdat je iets draagt wat uniek is en niet massaal geproduceerd.

Het verschil zit hem in:

• Materiaal: vaker natuurlijke vezels zoals wol of katoen.
• Constructie: dikkere garens, stevigere naden.
• Uiterlijk: geen standaard silhouetten of kleuren.

Daarnaast betaal je voor kwaliteit, niet voor marketing, koop je iets dat al bewezen heeft lang mee te gaan en je vermijdt de “alles lijkt op elkaar” look. Belangrijk om te weten: duurzaamheid is mooi meegenomen, maar de echte reden dat onze klanten voor vintage truien kiezen, is omdat ze simpelweg beter voelen en mooier eruit zien.

• Material label:
  Avoid high percentages of acrylic → high chance of pilling
  Prefer wool, cotton or blends with a maximum of ±30% synthetic
  
• Pilling (lint):
  Light pilling is normal.
  Extreme pilling often means poor quality yarn.
  
• Neckline shape:
  A stretched neckline is difficult to repair.
  
• Under the armpits:
  Check for discoloration or felting.

Are vintage women's sweaters clean?
Yes. All sweaters at Flamingo Vintage are inspected and cleaned where necessary. Doubts about hygiene are understandable, but with proper selection, this should not be an issue.

Is a vintage wool sweater itchy?
Sometimes, especially with coarser wool. Mohair and alpaca are often softer. Tip: wear a thin layer underneath if you are sensitive.

How do vintage sweaters fit?
Often a bit smaller (old sizes) or oversized (80s). Always check the measurements, they say more than the size.

Are second-hand women's sweaters worth it?
Yes, if you pay attention to material and condition. A good vintage sweater often lasts longer than a new fast-fashion variant.

Why buy a vintage sweater instead of a new one?
Because you wear something with character, better materials, and less predictability.
